I am so used to going to the archives in Ga, I didnt really realize how bad some of you out there have it lol. In Ga, you can copy microfilm either to paper or as a pdf to your memory stick. If you copy to paper its cheap and you can go and pay at the counter when you're done.
Halloween weekend I went to the SC archives where I recieved a huge shock. Not only was there copy machine 25 cents a copy and you had to feed the quarters in for each copy you made, but the microfilm machines were 50 cents a copy but were coin operated as well and they say they have no plans to upgrade to a decent machine that will copy to a pdf so you don't have to deal with paper.
Grrrrrrr

Since the death of a member yesterday and the spammer that sent you all messages, I thought it would be a good idea for me to have a general place to leave the general membership messages. So from now on make sure you check the main page of the site. Any messages will be posted to the top right of the Ancestor of the Week (right above my picture)

I am sorry to have to pass along the information that one of our members, Dawn Stringer, passed away yesterday. Dawn was a member of several genealogy sites, including here and Genealogy Wise. My most heartfelt condolences go out to her family and friends. I understand they have a memorial going for her on GW and I will be leaving her page here, until I have been notified the family wishes me to delete it, in case anyone would like to post on there. Her page is at

The genealogy world lost a good friend today. October 8, 2009, Bonnie Selig succumbed to Cancer. I “met” Bonnie awhile back through our volunteer work with RAOGK and it was obvious from the start she was a special person and a credit to a world I love so much… genealogy. I found Bonnie to be a warm, witty, funny person with a big heart.
Earlier this year when I took her spot on the staff of RAOGK, I prayed she would make a full recovery so that she could come back full time to the world she loved, and she served that world in the best possible way until she no longer could. People from across the nation benefited from her volunteer work and passion.
Bonnie will be missed in many ways by many people, and one of those people will be me.
My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends who’s main solace right now is that she is no longer in pain.
Bonnie, you were a shining example to a lot of people and we cared about you in our own unique way. Rest in peace lovely lady.

Almost 2 years after the Georgia Archives put up the death cert images for 1919-1927, it has upload 1928-1930. Its not as easy to use as the other ones, you have to find your person on the index then go back to the search page and enter the certificate number but hey, its better than nothing!!
This is the link for the new section
