At the moment,  I am researching my mother's father's family - Lightner but I would love to get a handle on her mother's family  - App and  Wise.  My husband's mother was a Garr and there was a book written in 1896 so I have a lot to research.  I have been researching for 3-4 years and have found many colorful characters including one who ran a "house" in Deadwood SD in the 1880's and others who killed their sisters husband - and got away with it.
