In the 70's, my Mom's cousin, Edith Luzadder Gardner, started doing some genealogical research. In the late 80's I bought some genealogy software to put all her findings in electronic form. I was traveling a lot for work, so when I went places where my family was from, I would visit cemeteries and courthouses for more info. Along the way, I came in contact with a few second cousins doing research as well as more distant cousins. So my genealogy database has really grown, and goes back to the late 1600's. To me it's like a big puzzle that I'm putting together. I sat down one day and figured out my ethnic backup (I'm a computer geek - I just like numbers) by looking at all my great-great-great-great-grandparents and determining where they were from. Right now it stands at:
- 50% Polish (area was sometimes part of Russia and sometimes part of Prussia)
- 6.25% German
- 6.25% French
- 6.25% Irish
- 3.125% Prussian
- 3.125% English
- 1.5625% Bavarian
- 1.5625% Sephardic Jew (either Spanish or Portuguese)
- 21.875% undetermined or less than 1% (includes native American and Welsh)
