Found others researching some of my family

    Saturday, September 13, 2008, 5:45 PM [General]

Just recently I have come across three people researching different parts of my Caldararo family.  Two of them are researching the families of one of my greatgrandmother's sister.  And one who is researching the Caldararo line itself (we are still working the kinks out of this one)  We will get it all unraveled though eventually. And we have each been able to provide the other with some info that each of us did not have.

It has been so wonderful also with family that I did know- some of them are really getting into it now and I have seen the first picture that I have ever seen of my great grandfather Luigi, plus lots of other great pictures that were shared by some cousins- it is like we have our own little genealogy circle going on.

Although most of my thanks has to go to my Aunt Theresa- she will be 80.  If it was not for her wonderful memory, I would not have come across these connections.  It was from information received from her and the fact that I am reader that I located these people.

Excited Found my Great Grandfather WWII Reg Card

    Saturday, August 2, 2008, 11:22 PM [General]

I am so happy- this helps pretty much confirm the town that my great grandparents came from.  I can also now go hunt t hem down in the census using the address.  Plus gives me a birth date to work with.

Here is a hint- that I am sure many are aware of but it seems that in Italy the woman retains her maiden name.

Also here is a site that I had found a number of years ago and recently rediscovered

A Newspaper Article about when my grandparents visted England

    Sunday, June 29, 2008, 12:26 PM [General]

Yesterday my aunt and uncle came to visit - my uncle has an interest in genealogy just like me and he had brought with him a bunch of photos and a few other papers.

My grandparents were married in England in 1944- my grandmother was a war bride- my grandather a US soldier during WW II. She came to the US with my grandfather and my uncle- he was born over in England. Then she had my father and my aunt. In 1958 the whole family went to go visit.

I guess back then that was big news since there was a whole article about the vist in the Derby Evening Telegraph - March 5, 1958.

From that article I was able to get the name of one of my great great grandfathers- as in the article they stated that the first place that the family went to go vist were my grandmother's grandparents Mr and Mrs Joseph Sale in Tatenhill- they were 86 years old at the time.

From other research that I have done- I am pretty sure at this point that my great great grandparents on great grandmother Maud maiden name Wood are Thomas and Annie Wood.

Part of what also makes me think I am correct is that in finding out what one great great grandfather's name was- I am pretty sure Maud's oldest son who was killed in WW II was named after both of his grandfather's his name was Joseph Thomas.  He was a private in the2nd Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment.  He was 18 years old when he was killed and is buried in France.

Here is his listing at Findagrave.com
