Best genealogy moment There are many, but one really fun find was discovering that my great grandfather had a brother, from his school records that I was able to obtain. I don't think my grandfather knew he had an uncle. He may have had 2.

I feel like every time I find something new and exciting that IT is the best genealogy moment -- until the next one.
Time in history I think post Rev. war was very exciting. There was so much moving around the country and so much change. Plus, the genealogy records just get better and better each decade. I've spent a lot of time in the 1850s range.
Music I like native music, including flute, powwow, metis and modern. various world music including celtic, african, arabic, and indian. Also raunchy blues, scratchy jazz, southern rock, and 70s rock. Good fiddle music and select classical.

Side note: My pioneer ancestors who were living out in the middle of nowhere, used to sing and play all kinds of instruments by ear including the fiddle.
Books I like mostly non-fiction. I'm into anthropology big time, which goes very nicely with my genealogy passion. Sprinkle some history in there and it makes for some good research. I also like astronomy, poetry, art, and photography books.
I think its fun to go to google books and find old books that speak of another time. There are little historical and genealogical gems in those books. Some of those are directories, histories of cities, hospitals, schools, towns, etc. FUN stuff. :)
Movies I like suspense, action, drama, comedy, sci-fi, fantasy, native, historical, animation.
Not into horror, chick flicks, crime, gangster, or teenage humor.
TV Dog Whisperer, DIY shows, documentaries, Idol, reality shows, animal planet, paranormal shows, ancestors (BYU channel), heroes, chuck, new amsterdam, big love, grays anatomy, football, cooking. OK, I love TV. I confess!

    An Introduction

    Hi folks,

I love genealogy!!! I've became interested when my grandfather put a small tree in the back of his autobiography. I got hooked though about 8 years ago when I found out things about my other grandfather on the internet. Who were these people posting about my family? That was so cool! Ever since then I've been making connections and meeting dozens of cousins. I love finding relatives all over the globe. And I also love the process of digging and then the elation when I discover something. I am such a sleuth by nature. I use it at work and probably too much in every day life. I guess genealogy was a natural thing for me.

Several years ago, I put together a book because I had a flood of information that my family on both sides was anxious to see.  They gave me their feedback and corrections, and I've been correcting it and updating it ever since.

In the last couple of years I decided to focus the bulk of my attention on my father and mother's surname and let the rest sort of stay on hold for a while.  I find that when I focus on these lines  intensely I get more done and my mind doesn't get too distracted by distant bloodlines.   I haven't been able to cross the ocean with these two lines, but I've gotten alot more information about them.

Those lines are MacMullin and Richardson.  With Richardson, I used a text format timeline as a research aid to help me and its been soooooooo handy.  Seeing events unfold line after line makes it easy to read and find information and remember stuff.  Also makes it easier to see quickly if there are problems with dates and locations.
    More about those lines:

MacMullin: Scotland (unknown) > Ireland (unknown) > Philadelphia, PA > Niagara Falls, NY

Richardson > (unproved information) > Munson, OH > Dover, OH > Monroe, IA > Des Moines, IA > Poe, IA > Beacon, IA > North Loupe, NE > Harmony Heights, WY > Lingle, WY

I'm not researching this now but have lots of family from Greene Co. TN and Greene Co. MO.
Surnames: Yeakley, Likins, Squibb, Crabtree.  Very interested in Quaker family called Horn from Rheatown area, Greene Co. TN.

If you think you may be related, I have a secure website with gobs of censuses n' stuff.  Please provide the family connection and you will be emailed with a link and password.  Thanks.

Zabel was my grandmothers maiden name. I don't have a lot of info on her side of the family. Her father and grandfather came over to the US in the 1870's from Prussia. Thats really all of the info that I have- I need to see if I can find their naturalization papers- perhaps that will tell me what town they came from, then I could find their church or some other records.
