Best genealogy moment My best genealogy moment was when I was in the library and finally found the census record that revealed that my Elliot KY ancestor was born in PA. A thrill went coursing through my body because I knew that the port of Phildelphia was one of the largest destination port of calls for immigrants from western Europe, Scotland - Ireland - England.
Specialty I would say my specialty is being having the patience and tenacity to find those obscure lost census
Time in history I have two favorite time periods in history - Civil War period and the 1940's the time of 'the Greatest Generation'. My dad was a WWII hero. He earned the 'Bronze Star.'
Hobbies Genealogy is about my biggest hobby but I am also slowly writing a book. I call it 'One Family's Journey.' My most favorite hobby is to travel.

    Heroes

    Sunday, July 20, 2008, 6:09 PM [General]

As you will see two of my greatest heroes in Irish history and Scottish history are represented in the video snipits from the films made of their lives.  Michael Collins fought for Ireland to be an independant free state and was the major catalist to that end.  Rob Roy MacGregor was was one of the great heroes to his people during the Jacobite times.  One of my favorite actors, Liam Neeson, plays both heroes to great effect.  Liam Neeson is really and truly Irish and is a man of great stature as was both Michael Collins and Rob Roy MacGregor

    Genealogy Today

    Sunday, July 20, 2008, 6:06 PM [General]

Conas ta' tu'?  As most genealogists know genealogy today is becoming more and more hi-tech.  Today genealogists are finding definite links to ancestral lines of old by using DNA forensic science to prove an absolute connection to their lines.  I received an exciting email from someone I had never heard from before.  She is a direct descendant of my ancestor Johnston Elliott through his son, Green Lee Elliott, from his second marriage to Susannah Lucianah Brown .  I am a direct descendant of Johnston Elliott through his elder son, Austin Elliott, from his first marriage to Susannah Austin.  I am the gr-gr-gr-grandaughter of this son.  She is the gr-gr-grandaughter of Green Lee Elliott.  Her cousin, which means that he is somehow my cousin also, H. T. Elliott has been tested for DNA cheek sample.  He now has been shown to be descendant from the Elliots of Midlam Mill.  I knew through my own research and from the book 'Elliotts of Casey' written by Jo Touchstone, due to the fact that my research merged with her information,  that I was of this line of Elliiots but to get the DNA confirmation is very exciting.  Score one for an amateur fly-by-the seat of her pants genealogist.  Yipee!!!  feichfidh me' ar ball thu', Slan, Sinead

    Celtic Thunder

    Saturday, July 19, 2008, 5:16 PM [General]

Conas ta' tu'? I love my Celtic heritage.  The Irish/Scots being the strongest in my genetic make-up leads me to lean toward those although I have Welsh and English thrown in there also.  I know those of you who love celtic music have heard of the show, with accompaning CD, Celtic Woman.  It is some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard.  Now let me introduce you to Celtic Thunder.  It is a new show, with accompaning CD and DVD, by the same producer as Celtic Woman.  It is comprised of 5 gentlemen ages 14 to 40 something.  They have the most incredible voices individually and corporately they harmonize beautifully.  If they come near you they are a must to go see.  I have tickets for 11 October when they are going to be in Cincinnati and am so pumped I can hardly wait.  Please take time to listen to a little sample of their performaces that I have put on my page.  Enjoy!

    About Me

    Thursday, July 17, 2008, 3:20 PM [General]

    About me:
I am a 59 year old widow, mother and grandmother. My place of residence is in Ohio, USA. I have auburn hair and hazel eyes, mostly light brown with flecks of green in them. I am of Irish and Scottish descent, with a bit of the Welsh (maternal grandmother) thrown in there. I am of the Connelly/Conley Clan on the Irish side (father) and of the Elliot/Elliott Clan on the Scottish side (mother). I have been studying about my Iirsh and Scots hertiage since 1992. I have traced both sides back to the origins and am writing a book called 'One Family's Journey.' I should work on it more and maybe I would get it finished. Oh, well! I love dance of all kinds especially ballet. The etheral quality of touches me in the same way that celtic music does. I think next to ballet I like ballroom with it's elegance and passion. I love the arts also, all kinds: sculpture, fabric, photographic, mixed media, etc. The impressionists are my favorite painters, Manet, Degas, Monet, Renoir, Morisot, etc. with Mary Cassatt and her emotion provoking mother and child works. Celtic music is my especial love with the Big Band sound of the '40's with Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, the Dorseys, etc. coming a close second. I love Beatles, Schubert, Chopin, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Strauss, Moody Blues, Garth Brooks, Savage Garden, etc., see what I mean. The beauty that God has given us begs to be explored and I love to hike the hills and dales of this earth. I made my life's dream trip to Ireland in 2006 and I cannot describe in mere words the beauty. Ireland touches all the emotions in me, dance, music, poetry, drama and history. The people are warm, witty and wonderful. I love to read write and dream. I am passionate about life and the loves in my life, family, friends, children, grandchildren and most of all my Lord.
