Best genealogy moment
My best genealogy moment was when I was in the library and finally found the census record that revealed that my Elliot KY ancestor was born in PA. A thrill went coursing through my body because I knew that the port of Phildelphia was one of the largest destination port of calls for immigrants from western Europe, Scotland - Ireland - England.
Specialty
I would say my specialty is being having the patience and tenacity to find those obscure lost census
Time in history
I have two favorite time periods in history - Civil War period and the 1940's the time of 'the Greatest Generation'. My dad was a WWII hero. He earned the 'Bronze Star.'
Hobbies
Genealogy is about my biggest hobby but I am also slowly writing a book. I call it 'One Family's Journey.' My most favorite hobby is to travel.
Music
My music tastes are very eclectic and they range from Schubert, Strauss and Chopin to Louis Armstrong to Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman to Fats Domino and Buddy Holly to the Four Seasons, Beach Boys and Beatles to the Monkeys, the Mamas & Papas, Bob Seegar and Creadance Clearwater to Jim Croce, from Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez and Janis Joplin to Peter, Paul and Mary, from Celine Dion to Savage Garden from Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn to Carrie Underwood and Alison Kraus from Bill Gathier to Paul Wilbur. A little of everything except Rap, just don't get it.
Books
Books of the history of Ireland and Scotland, history of the Civil War and WWII, mystery and suspense i.e. Patricia Cornwell and John Grisham novels. The Left Behind Series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins My favorite is the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling, absolutely one of the greatest story tellers I have ever read.
Movies
Pay It Forward, Forrest Gump, Dirty Dancing, Passion of the christ, All 5 of the Harry Potter films, Mel Gibson's Patriot, Star Wars, Spiderwick, Chronicles of Narnia - Lion Witch and the Wardrow, Charlie Chan, Sherlock Holmes, Braveheart, Rob Roy and Michael Collins, musicals of the '40's, Glenn Miller Story, etc.
TV
CSI, CSI Miami, Forensic Files, City Confidential, Cold Case Files and other interesting programs on A&E, Biography, History and History International and Discovery channels.

One of my father's lines branches out into CASEY CO., KY. My great-grandmother, ELIZABETH WHELAN, was married twice.
Her first marriage was to a DUDLEY WINSTON WHEAT, born about 1860 in Casey Co., KY, the son of JOSEPH WILLIAM WHEAT and NANCY STAPP. They were married in St. Louis in 1890 and they had one child, a son, Charles, born in 1892.
Dudley died in 1893, although I've searched HIGH and low for the place of his death both in Missouri, Kentucky, etc. He's buried in the cemetery in Liberty Twp., Casey County.
After Dudley died, Elizabeth remarried to JOHN HENRY POWDERLY in 1895. Elizabeth and John had three children: Neva, my grandmother, and twins who died in infancy.
As you will see two of my greatest heroes in Irish history and Scottish history are represented in the video snipits from the films made of their lives. Michael Collins fought for Ireland to be an independant free state and was the major catalist to that end. Rob Roy MacGregor was was one of the great heroes to his people during the Jacobite times. One of my favorite actors, Liam Neeson, plays both heroes to great effect. Liam Neeson is really and truly Irish and is a man of great stature as was both Michael Collins and Rob Roy MacGregor
