    He's not bad...there have been a few books I couldnt finish, but maybe I wasnt in the right frame of mind when trying to read them

    I have not read all Jakes books, but I have read a good many of them. I read all the Kent Family Chronicles when they first came out...except the very last one. I am not sure if these were the first books he came out with, but at the time he was a pioneer in that type of historical fiction. I really loved them. The depth of his research was amazing. I was learning history without the pain of High School History classes.

    I adored North and South, having small people I knew in the movie may have helped that along. But I did read the books before we even knew there would be movies.

    I enjoyed the one he wrote on the California Gold Rush....but the name escapes me right now. Has anyone read Charleston? I have not and would love to know if it is any good.
