Yesterday or the day before (some days run together here LOL), I was inputting more family data in my family tree, sourcing and all and I got a hint. That means that someone in my family tree is also in someone else's family tree. I went to check it out. In the family tree, I found at least 30-50 photographs of my ancestors (well, our mutual ancestors). I felt like I had hit the jackpot! LOL My goal, and I know it's a pretty steep one, is to have a photo, an obituary, a story, or some other kind of tidbit for each ancestor in my family tree. Wouldn't that be wonderful? I would like to one day have books made of our genealogy for my entire family and I thought this would be great if I could include at least a litle something on each ancestor. So I emailed the person who posted the family tree and told her we have quite a few ancestors in common. I did ask her about one photo in particular because there was a chapel which was named the same name as my gggg grandparents and I didn't know if she might have some backgound information about that chapel. I also mentioned my goal and asked if it would be okay to add the photos to my family tree. I let her know I would source them, so whoever looked at my family tree would know who and where I got them from. I also mentioned that I have some photos that I could share, which hadn't been uploaded to my famly tree yet, of my ancestral line that might be of interest to her and that I would be happy to share them. My question is this: was I out of line to ask if I could copy her photos? What is the purpose of uploading the pictures if not to share them, is my way of thinking. Is that wrong? Did I go about everything correctly? She hasn't emailed me back yet and I'm just wondering how she took my email. I hope I hear from her soon.

How wonderful!! I know how you must have felt, I was so happy when I came up with a photo of my grandfather that I never met on someone else's tree. He and my grandmother divorced and my "grandpa" adopted my dad. There was no contact between the bio-father and the kids.
CyndyI wouldn't worry about her not emailing you back yet. I've had that feeling before and have learned that not everyone checks their email 100 times a day like I do! LOL! It wasn't wrong for you to copy her photos, that's why they're out there. If she didn't want others to have them, she either wouldn't put them out there or make her tree private.
Congratulations!
